Welcome to Y2/1S

Miss Sunderland is our teacher. Mrs Spence and Mrs Pointon also work in our class.
We have an interactive whiteboard and two computers.  We sometimes use one of our laptops to do our work on.

Patch

Patch is our class teddy. He is called Patch because he has got lots of patches. He goes on visits with children. He has been to lots of different places. Mr Field our caretaker took him to New York . He goes to children's houses as well and has found out about their pets and helped them learn about plants and other things.

Science

In science we have grown some bean and sunflower plants. We have also visited the Valley Gardens where we played on the park equipment and found out more about forces.

Art

We enjoy painting, using pastels and making models with clay. Our pictures and models are usually displayed in the classroom or around school.

We also do Literacy, Numeracy, History, Geography, Music, R.E., Technology and P.E.

Visits

We enjoy going on visits. Usually we visit the Salvation Army Citadel and find out about the building as part of our R.E. work.

We have also been to the Abbey House Museum in Leeds .

Welcome to Y2C

In our class we have 30 children – 13  boys and 17 girls. We are all year 2 children. Our teacher is called Mrs Cowell and we have a school assistant who helps in our class. Her name is Mrs Ward.

Assembly Monitors

When you are in year 2 you have a turn at being an assembly monitor. Each week there are two monitors who help Mrs Tricker, our headteacher. The duties include putting out chairs for the adults, getting things ready for assembly, changing the calendar and holding the doors open for the other classes.

Recycling

In our school we recycle paper, plastic, card, glass, ink cartridges and stamps. On Friday mornings the two assembly monitors help collect all the items together, ready to be taken to the recycling depot.

Drawers

In year 2 we all have our own drawers in the classroom where we keep our books, papers and tabards. Each drawer is labelled with our names and we have drawn pictures and patterns for a border.

Classroom Monitors

Each day two children are on duty and they take the register to the office in the morning and after lunch. When we have eaten our fruit they take the fruit tray to the kitchen. They also put out and bring in the thermometer and complete our weather charts.

In some of our lessons we have been learning about healthy living. We observed a variety of fruit and found out which countries the fruit comes from. After producing pictures and paintings of the fruit, we made our own fruit salad.

In history we are going on a visit to Ryedale Folk Museum where we can do washing as it was done in Victorian times.

Children enter our Reception class as they leave Nursery at the age of four and leave when they are five to go in to the Year one class. Our teacher is called Mr. Brook and our teaching assistant is called Mrs. Smith.

In our class we learn all about numbers for counting, adding and taking away. We learn all about 2D and 3D shapes and all about measuring. These lessons are all called Numeracy.

We also learn about the things that are around us, and how people live in other countries.

We enjoy finding out about how people lived long ago. We have just been lucky enough to visit Abbey House Museum where we learned about the history of toys.

This term we have also been learning all about different food and enjoyed a fantastic visit to Cannon Hall Farm in Barnsley . We met lots of different animals and found out where some of our food comes from.

Tigger lives in our classroom. He is a valued member of our class who goes home with the children every night. He has his own bag, book and a camera, which the children use to record his experiences in.

Children in our class enjoy setting themselves challenges and Never, Never, Never give up! with what they are learning.  Keep it up Smiley Class!!!!!

 Welcome to the Nursery

There are 65 children in our nursery who attend for a half-day session. The nursery teacher is called Mrs Barraclough and we have some other adults who work with us.

13 children a day can attend wraparound. These children stay in nursery all day and have a lunch in school.

In our nursery we have a workshop area where we can make models or do sticky pictures, we have painting, sand, water and salt dough or clay out every day.

We have different role play areas where we can dress up. At the moment we have a house and a café but this changes depending on the topic we are doing.

We have construction and small world activities out where we learn to share and play alongside or with other children.

We enjoy doing jigsaws and playing maths and literacy games, especially if a grown up plays with us.

We have two computers in our nursery which we can use all the time, some of us are very good at changing the programs and printing our own work.Every day we have singing and stories.

We like to be outside as much as possible. We have lots of climbing equipment, bicycles, scooters and ride on toys. We enjoy climbing into our gravel pit and playing with the diggers and trucks.

We have a large art board where we can share to make big pictures.

We have just bought a new sandpit for outside so we can have sand and water out every day.

We have a library where children can borrow a book every week to read at home with a parent  or carer.

Every day we have milk and some fruit.
