ICT

We enjoy using toys like the Bee-Bots to programme a series of moves. We use the laptops and the interactive whiteboard in our classroom to help us learn about lots of different topics.

SEAL

We try to be kind to each other in our class, we learn how to talk about what happens and we listen carefully to each other. We work in groups inside and outside and we can share and help one another.

Growing

We like to grow lots of different things in our class such as cress and potatoes. We make sandwiches with egg and cress and cook our potatoes to eat.

Visits

We go to the farm to learn about animals and their young, we usually go to Cannon Hall Farm where we can see lots of different animals and feed them and stroke them.

We try to be imaginative and creative and learn at the same time!

 Welcome to the Nursery

There are 65 children in our nursery who attend for a half-day session. The nursery teacher is called Mrs Barraclough and we have some other adults who work with us.

13 children a day can attend wraparound. These children stay in nursery all day and have a lunch in school.

In our nursery we have a workshop area where we can make models or do sticky pictures, we have painting, sand, water and salt dough or clay out every day.

We have different role play areas where we can dress up. At the moment we have a house and a café but this changes depending on the topic we are doing.

We have construction and small world activities out where we learn to share and play alongside or with other children.

We enjoy doing jigsaws and playing maths and literacy games, especially if a grown up plays with us.

We have two computers in our nursery which we can use all the time, some of us are very good at changing the programs and printing our own work.Every day we have singing and stories.

We like to be outside as much as possible. We have lots of climbing equipment, bicycles, scooters and ride on toys. We enjoy climbing into our gravel pit and playing with the diggers and trucks.

We have a large art board where we can share to make big pictures.

We have just bought a new sandpit for outside so we can have sand and water out every day.

We have a library where children can borrow a book every week to read at home with a parent  or carer.

Every day we have milk and some fruit.

Welcome to the Nursery

 Welcome to Year 1

Our Class

In Year 1 our Teacher is Miss Rhind and our teaching assistant is Mrs Hirst. We enjoy doing lots of activities in the classroom alongside our hard work, like using the sand, making up stories with the finger puppets and masks in the reading corner, and acting out lots of scenarios in our role play areas.

These areas change depending on what Topic we are doing, so far our role play area has been a Doctor’s surgery and a Toy shop. We like to use our Topic to learn about all the other subjects too including Literacy and Maths, so that our learning is both creative and fun.

ICT

We have a big interactive whiteboard in our classroom for us to play phonic games on, watch and learn from espresso, and practice our handwriting. We also have the laptops in the class on certain days and use Bee bots to follow maps and put instructions and stories in the correct order.

SEAL

At Wheldon Infant School and Nursery we all learn the importance of being kind, playing safely and listening to each other. We know that it’s ok to feel unhappy at times but we learn what to do to overcome it and support each other through knowing how to help them.

    Visits

In the Autumn Term we learn about toys from the past and we join another class to go on a visit to Cusworth Hall in Doncaster. There we get to play with old toys and learn how children had fun in the Victorian times. We even have the chance to get dressed up while we are there.Throughout the year, we do get visits from members of our community like the road safety team and people or parents who have interesting stories to share.

Outdoor Area.

At times we like to go outside and use the Outdoor area outside our classroom; we use the markings on the playground and the equipment from the shed too. We like to go outside to listen to stories, and go on maths and science hunts.
